Job positions
We are a collaborative network of experimental research groups specializing in quantum simulation, quantum computing, cavity QED, and quantum metrology. Our work spans diverse research areas including the physics of atoms, ions, molecules, and photonics, offering a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research. We are always looking for motivated and passionate students and researchers to join us. Whether you are seeking a Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis, a PhD position, or a Postdoctoral opportunity, we encourage you to explore our research pages and to reach out to the group leaders of the projects you are most interested in. Collaboration across different disciplines and labs is central to our work, and we offer a supportive and innovative environment for personal and professional growth.
PhD Students
We offer a prestigious PhD program that provides direct access to world-leading research in ultracold matter. You will be able to learn state-of-the-art experimental methods, work with advanced equipment and push the scientific and technology boundaries to conduct exciting research. While our work is primarily experimental, there are also opportunities for theory-focused projects in collaboration or directly within strong theory groups with whom we work. Our program includes a three-year fixed-term contract, during which students have the opportunity to spend three to six months conducting research at a leading group abroad to enhance their skills and broaden their academic experience.
Job Description:
- Conduct independent and collaborative research.
- Publish research findings in top-tier scientific journals and present at international conferences.
- Complete relevant coursework in the field.
- Optionally contribute to undergraduate teaching.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Physics or other STEM subjects.
- Applicants do not need to be finished with their Master’s degree by the application deadline, only by the beginning of the program.
Applications:
Applications typically open in Spring or early Summer with the deadline in June-July, then admission exams take place and the PhD program starts in November. Currently, there are three different PhD program calls and they may have different application dates and requirements, so we suggest you to check them all:
- LENS International PhD Program in Atomic and Molecular Photonics (most up-to date application dates and requirements published on the UNIFI PhD Programs website)
- UNIFI PhD Program in Physics and Astrophysics (most up-to date application dates and requirements published on the UNIFI PhD Programs website)
- UNINA-CNR-UNICAM PhD Program in Quantum Technologies
Each year there may be additional calls and opportunities depending on special funding and/or programs. For more details or inquiries, please contact us at
Postdoctoral Opportunities
We welcome inquiries from postdoctoral researchers interested in joining our labs. For postdoctoral positions, we encourage direct contact with the relevant group leaders to discuss potential projects and research opportunities. Please visit the research pages to find out the best match for you. If you have a general inquiry or other request, please write to
Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses
We are always excited to discuss opportunities for Bachelor and Master theses across a range of research topics. If you come from abroad, you may leverage the ERASMUS program to support your stay. If you have a specific area of interest, we encourage you to contact the appropriate group leaders directly. If you are still exploring potential topics, feel free to send a general inquiry to
